UUID Generator

Generate UUIDs for database keys or test data instantly, using your browser's secure random number generator.

Everything you enter is processed in your browser and is never sent to or stored on a server.

What is a UUID?

A UUID (or GUID) is a unique identifier made of 32 hex digits in the 8-4-4-4-12 pattern, so IDs can be created anywhere without a central server and without collisions. Version 4 is fully random. Version 7 starts with a timestamp, so IDs sort in the order they were created, which works well for database primary keys.

How to use

  1. Choose a version and how many to create.
  2. Turn on uppercase or no hyphens if needed. New IDs are generated whenever settings change.
  3. Press Copy to grab them, or Generate new for a fresh batch.

Frequently asked questions

Can two UUIDs be the same?

In theory, but v4 has 122 random bits. You would need to generate a billion per second for about 100 years to reach a 50% chance of a single collision.

Should I use v4 or v7?

v4 is fine for general unique IDs. Use v7 when you want IDs that sort by creation time, such as database primary keys. Keep in mind that v7 reveals when it was created.

Are the generated UUIDs recorded anywhere?

No. They are created on your device with the browser's crypto API and are never sent or stored.
