Base64 Encoder/Decoder

Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. Non-English text and emoji are handled correctly as UTF-8.

Direction

Everything you enter is processed in your browser and is never sent to or stored on a server.

What is Base64?

Base64 represents data using only 64 characters: A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /. It is used to put data where only text is allowed, such as email attachments, data URLs, JWT tokens and API authentication headers. It is not encryption, so anyone can decode it.

How to use

  1. Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. Paste text or a Base64 string and the result appears instantly.
  3. Switching modes moves the result into the input so you can convert it back.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 encryption?

No. It is just an encoding that anyone can reverse, so never use it to hide passwords or personal data.

What is URL-safe Base64?

A variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /, and drops the trailing =, because those characters have special meaning in URLs. It is used in JWT tokens. Decoding accepts both variants automatically.

Does it work with non-English text?

Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding, so any language and emoji round-trip correctly. Base64 made from other encodings may not decode cleanly.
