What is a data size converter?
Use it to compare file sizes, storage capacities and data plans listed in different units. KB, MB and GB are decimal units that grow by 1,000, while KiB, MiB and GiB are binary units that grow by 1,024. One byte is 8 bits.
How to use
- Enter a size and choose the unit to convert from.
- Choose the unit to convert to and the result appears instantly.
- Check the table to see the same size in every unit.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1 GB 1,000 MB or 1,024 MB?
In the SI standard, 1 GB is 1,000 MB, and the 1,024-based units are called GiB and MiB. Some software, including Windows, shows 1,024-based sizes labeled as GB, which causes confusion.
Why does my 1 TB drive show as 931 GB?
Drive makers count 1 TB as 10¹² bytes, but Windows divides by 1,024 and shows about 931 GiB labeled as GB. No space is missing.
How many MB per second is 100 Mbps?
Internet speeds are in bits, so divide by 8. 100 Mbps is about 12.5 MB per second.
